The Hardest Part of Martial Arts Is Walking Through the Door

For most adults, the hardest part of martial arts isn't getting submitted.

It happens before the class even starts.

It's walking through the door.

Adults are very good at creating reasons not to be beginners.

“I'm too old.”

“I'm overweight.”

“My cardio is terrible.”

“I don't know anybody.”

“I'll look stupid.”

“I haven't exercised in ten years.”

We become comfortable doing things we already understand.

Being new again is uncomfortable.

Martial arts forces you to accept that.

You walk into the academy and you don't know what's happening.

Someone shows you a movement and your arms somehow go the opposite direction.

You get tired faster than you thought.

Then somebody half your size controls you.

Welcome to martial arts.

But there's something incredibly healthy about being humbled like that.

You start realizing you don't have to be good at something immediately.

You're allowed to learn.

You're allowed to make mistakes.

You're allowed to improve slowly.

And that beginner mentality starts becoming fun.

One month later, something makes sense that didn't make sense before.

Six months later, a brand-new person walks in and suddenly you realize how much you've learned.

That's a great feeling.

If you've been thinking about martial arts but insecurity keeps stopping you, remember this:

Nobody inside the academy expects you to already be a martial artist.

That's why you're coming.

You only need enough courage for the first step.

After that, we'll help you with the rest.
