You Don’t Have to Be a Fighter to Train Like One

You Don’t Have to Be a Fighter to Train Like One

One of the biggest things I want people to understand about CRANK Martial Arts Academy is that you do not need to have any experience to walk through our doors.

You do not need to be a fighter.

You do not need to be in great shape.

You do not need to know how to punch, wrestle, or do jiu-jitsu.

You just need to be willing to start.

Martial Arts Is for Everyone

Our adult classes are open to all experience levels.

Maybe you trained years ago and want to get back into it.

Maybe you have been doing jiu-jitsu or MMA for a while and want another place to sharpen your skills.

Or maybe you have never stepped on a mat in your life.

You are all welcome.

At CRANK Martial Arts, the goal is to create an environment where people can train hard without feeling like they have something to prove.

We want beginners to feel comfortable asking questions. We want experienced students to continue growing. And we want everyone in the room helping each other get better.

You Don’t Have to “Get in Shape” First

I hear this all the time:

“I want to train, but I need to get in shape first.”

My answer is simple.

Come train to get in shape.

You do not have to prepare yourself before starting martial arts.

Training is the preparation.

You will build your conditioning over time. You will get stronger. You will move better. You will learn how to control your breathing when you are tired.

It happens one class at a time.

Nobody walks into their first class already knowing everything.

Learn Skills That Actually Mean Something

Of course, martial arts is a great workout.

But I want our students to get more out of it than just sweating for an hour.

You are learning real skills.

Jiu-jitsu.

MMA.

Striking.

Wrestling.

Self-defense.

How to stay calm when somebody is putting pressure on you.

How to think while you are tired.

How to keep working when something is difficult.

Those lessons carry outside the academy too.

There is something powerful about doing something hard, realizing you can handle it, and coming back the next day a little more confident.

No Egos. Just Work.

The culture we are building at CRANK is important to me.

You can train seriously without taking yourself too seriously.

We can work hard, compete, push each other, laugh, learn, and still leave the room as friends.

Nobody needs to walk through the door trying to prove they are the toughest person in Guam.

The goal is simple:

Get better.

Some days you will feel great.

Some days somebody will tap you ten times.

Some days your technique will click.

Some days nothing will work.

That is martial arts.

You keep showing up.

Maybe You Want to Compete. Maybe You Don’t.

Not everybody who trains martial arts wants to fight.

And that is completely fine.

Some people want to compete.

Some want to learn self-defense.

Some want to lose weight.

Some want a new challenge.

Some want stress relief after work.

Some simply want something more exciting than going to the gym and doing the same workout every day.

Whatever brought you through the door, there is a place for you here.

You can take martial arts as far as you want to take it.

Starting Is Usually the Hardest Part

For most beginners, the hardest part of martial arts is not the training.

It is walking through the door for the first time.

I understand that.

A martial arts academy can look intimidating from the outside. You see people grappling, hitting pads, wrestling, sweating, and training hard.

But every person you see on those mats had a first day too.

They were beginners once.

They did not know where to stand.

They did not know what a shrimp was.

They did not know how to tie their belt.

They learned.

You will too.
